The Process

Every Stage of Your Houston Solar Installation

Five steps, clear timelines, and one local team responsible for all of them.

1

Free Roof Assessment & Energy Consultation

Our NABCEP-certified team visits your property to evaluate roof condition, sun exposure and energy needs. We review 12 months of your CenterPoint or TNMP electricity bills and talk through what you actually want solar to do for you.

What happens

  • Structural roof inspection — age, decking, penetrations
  • Satellite and on-site shade analysis for your roof planes
  • 12-month electricity usage and rate-plan review
  • Goal discussion: bill offset, backup power, or both

2

Custom System Design & Proposal

We build a solar system design tailored to your exact roof and consumption — not a template. You get 3D modelling, precise panel placement, production modelling and a line-item price with savings projections.

What happens

  • 3D roof modelling with per-panel shade simulation
  • System sizing against your real annual kWh usage
  • Panel, inverter and racking equipment selection
  • 25-year savings projection and payback modelling
  • Cash, loan and financing options side by side

Permitting & HOA Approval

We handle all the paperwork — city and county permits, utility interconnection applications and HOA approvals where they apply. You do not deal with any of the red tape.

What happens

  • Building permit submission to City of Houston or your county
  • Electrical permit and stamped engineering drawings
  • Utility interconnection application (CenterPoint or TNMP)
  • HOA architectural review packet, if your neighbourhood requires one

Most Houston-area permits are approved within 10–15 business days. Texas law limits how far an HOA can restrict solar, and we prepare the submission accordingly.

Professional Installation

Our own certified crew mounts the racking and panels, sets the inverter and monitoring hardware and ties the system into your electrical panel — typically in a single day, with minimal disruption to your household.

What happens

  • Flashed, watertight racking installation
  • Panel mounting and torque verification
  • Inverter or microinverter setup
  • Electrical wiring, conduit and system grounding
  • Production monitoring hardware and commissioning

Inspection, Activation & Monitoring

The city inspector and your utility sign off, we switch the system on, and your meter starts running backwards. We walk you through the monitoring app and stay on as your service contact.

What happens

  • City or county final electrical inspection
  • Utility Permission to Operate (PTO)
  • System activation and performance verification
  • Monitoring app setup on your phone
  • Homeowner orientation and warranty handover

Questions

Common Questions About Solar Installation

What Houston homeowners ask us most about the process itself.

How long does the entire solar installation process take in Houston?

Most Houston projects run three to six weeks from your first consultation to power-on. The physical installation is only one to three days of that — the rest is design, city permitting and waiting on your utility to issue Permission to Operate.

Do I need to be home during installation?

You need to be there at the start of day one so we can walk the plan with you and access your electrical panel, but you do not have to stay after that. There will be one brief planned power interruption while we tie the system into your panel, and we schedule it with you in advance.

What permits are required for solar panels in Houston?

Inside city limits you need a City of Houston building permit and an electrical permit, both filed with stamped engineering drawings. You also need an interconnection agreement with your utility — CenterPoint for most of the metro, TNMP in parts of Fort Bend and the surrounding counties. We file all of them on your behalf.

Will solar installation damage my roof?

No. Every mount is lag-bolted into a rafter and sealed with flashing that tucks under the existing shingle course, which is the same method used for a vent or skylight. Our roof penetrations carry a 25-year workmanship warranty, and the panels actually shield the shingles underneath from Houston sun and hail.

What happens if my roof needs repairs before installation?

We flag it during the free assessment rather than after you have signed. If your roof has under about five years of life left, we recommend replacing or repairing it first, since removing and reinstalling an array later costs far more than doing the roof work up front.

How do I know if my roof is suitable for solar?

South, west and east-facing planes all work well at Houston's latitude, and you generally want a section with limited shade between 9am and 4pm. Roof age, decking condition and available square footage matter as much as orientation, which is exactly what our free assessment measures.

Can I add battery storage later?

Yes, though it is cheaper to plan for it now. If you tell us storage may be coming, we will spec a battery-ready or hybrid inverter during the design step so adding a Powerwall or Enphase battery later is a straightforward retrofit rather than an inverter replacement.
